:) Welcome to Year 4 2020-21! from Mrs Swan and Mrs Taylor :)

Summer Homework Ideas for Year 4 2020-21

To 4CS and 4RT 2020-21,

We are so looking forward to meeting you and starting the new school year together.

If you are looking for something to do over the summer holidays, why not get a head start on your first topic: I Am Warrior! It is all about the Romans and there are some ideas below for what you could do. If you have your own idea though, that's great!

Looking forward to seeing all your great projects!

Mrs Swan and Mrs Taylor :)

I Am Warrior! Knowledge Organiser

To give you an idea of what will be covered in this topic, here is a knowledge organiser, full of the vocabulary, facts and ideas the children will be need to be aware of over the first half term back at school. Hopefully by the end of the topic, they will be able to recall the facts on this sheet and place the Roman invasion of Britain in a wider historical context. Have a look and see which words and facts you already knew, which you are unsure of and which you have questions about.

Year 4

Home Learning for Year 4 Children

During this time, we thought it would be helpful to provide you with some ideas for home learning.
Please find below Word documents which have a suggested timetable for activities linked to Maths, Writing, Reading, Connected Learning subjects and P4C.

There are also some 'HOW TO' Power Points / sheets to help you when supporting your children and some website suggestions on the plan. All of the additional resources are referenced on the plan. All of the resources can also be accessed via SharePoint. Details of how to login to this have been sent home with the children. If you are unsure of how to access this, please email the school office for access details.

For Computing activities, please take a look at Mrs Cox's updated webpage containing lots of fun activites. Click Here.

For latest information to Parents/Carers from CEOP, on how to protect your children when Gaming, Click Here.

For P.E. activities, some child-friendly links include 'Joe Wicks Body Coach Children's Sessions', 'NHS 10 minute shake ups', 'Cosmic Kids' Yoga and Mindfulness and 'GoNoodle' videos. Hopefully these will help children to stay active whilst indoors.

For additional P4C activities, please take a look at; www.thephilosophyman.com/brainsqueezersEach week, there will be different Spot and Stripe videos, a game, a riddle, Sticky Questions, a stimulus story and details of Alien Adventures in Philosophy Zoom sessions. These will be changed every Friday.

David Walliams is releasing a new free audio book each day for you to enjoy :)

https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/

All of the ideas suggested  could be done in segments over the week.

The ideas listed will not necessarily match exactly the content and order of that being taught in school, because we have adapted the activities to suit home learning rather than class based learning.

We hope you find this useful. If you have any questions, or need hard copies of the downloads,  please email the office who can forward the email on to the class teachers.

Many thanks,

Mrs Taylor and Mrs Clark.

w/b 15.06.20 Week 12 - Home Learning

Please find below home learning resources for Week 12.

From this week - week commencing 15th June - we are going to approach the Home Learning in a slightly different way which we hope will help to connect the curriculum together for children both at home and school.

  • Each week will have a different theme and all home learning tasks have been designed to link together around this theme. It will be a project based approach, a little bit like the homework, where you will be able to pick and choose activities.
  • In order to be consistent across the year groups, the same theme will apply to Years 2, 3, 4 and 5. This will mean that if you have children in different year groups, you can work together on the same project.

  • English and Maths have suggested year group tasks, however, you can look at older/younger ideas as you wish. You might even have other ideas too - be as creative as you like!

  • These tasks have been designed so that you do not need information printing off, all that is required are the basic resources to do the task. E.g. paper, pens, paints etc.

  • An example timetable will be published each week but you can drop activities into the timetable to suit you as you wish.

We hope this new idea will be a new fresh start for some of you where the work is becoming a bit of a struggle.

Must Do Tasks

Must Do Tasks will continue as before.

Writing Must Do tasks will be based on the weekly theme and will be highlighted on the activity plan. These will also be available as a Word document on the website.

Reading Must Do tasks will also be available as a separate document and again will be based on the weekly theme.

Maths Must Do tasks continue to be a consolidation of the key objectives for each year group and will be available as separate documents on the website. The activity plan also includes some additional Maths activities linked to the weekly theme.

Week 2- Home Learning Timetable

Please find below a suggested Home Learning Timetable for week 2.

You can save your child's work in One Drive Year 4 under a new folder (labelled with their name and class). This can then be looked at by their teacher.

Mrs Taylor is currently leaving feedback for the children's work on a document that will be created in your child's named folder. (labelled - Marking Feedback Mrs Taylor)

Mrs Clark will be leaving comments written on the children's work under the 'Comments' button on each document; please click on 'Comments' or the 'i' button on the right hand side to view the comments.

Pictures of work completed on paper can also be added to your child's folder if you wish.

There are also some 'HOW TO' Power Points / sheets to help you when supporting your children and some website suggestions on the plan. All of the additional resources are referenced on the plan. You will find all of the additional resources on our Year 4 SharePoint area and on our webpage. Details of how to login to this have been sent home with the children. If you are unsure of how to access this, please email the school Office for access details.

For P.E. activities, some child-friendly links include 'Joe Wicks Body Coach Children's Sessions', 'NHS 10 minute shake ups', 'Cosmic Kids' Yoga and Mindfulness and 'GoNoodle' videos.

New Homework Sheet for Misty Mountain Sierra Topic

Any of these ideas can also be done as part of your home learning.

Update 19.03.20: Home Learning for Y4 Children

During this time, we thought it would be helpful to provide you with some ideas for home learning.
Please find below a Word document which has a suggested timetable for activities linked to Maths, Writing, Reading, Connected Learning subjects and P4C.

There are also some 'HOW TO' Power Points / sheets to help you when supporting your children and some website suggestions on the plan. All of the additional resources are referenced on the plan. You will find all of the additional resources on our Year 4 SharePoint area.

On Thursday 12th December Year 4 discussed democracy and held a real life vote to elect this years house captains. Each child had to put a cross in their ballot inside a booth, they were then counted and verified before house captains were announced. Well done to all children elected to be house captains.

Please Find our Blue Abyss homework sheet here for Autumn 2 term October- Christmas.

This week we have used all our knowledge we have learnt this half term, about ordnance survey maps, grid references and mountains, to design and make clay OS maps with 3D elements. It was great fun! We used a variety of skills to smooth, shape and score the clay for the desire effects. After half term, we will be painting them!
